Developing a Black Belt Focus
Welcome to the Black Belt Business Advisors Blog
Hello and welcome to the inaugural edition of the Black Belt Business Advisors blog. My name is David Lopez, and I am president of Black Belt Business Advisors. The objective of this blog is to provide you, the reader, with ideas and concepts that will assist you in your journey towards long term business, professional, and personal success. As a Shaolin Kempo Karate Black Belt, I will use Martial Arts concepts and strategies to motivate you to continue your journey towards success.
The Martial Arts have been an important part of my life for many years. My journey to become a Black Belt has allowed for personal growth and development physically, mentally and spiritually. The focus on Black Belt attributes such as modesty, self-control, discipline, perseverance and courage has helped me to overcome obstacles and achieve my goals.
One of my early goals was to become a Black Belt. I began my studies at Fred Villari’s Martial Arts Center in Cambridge, MA as a Shaolin Kempo Karate White Belt. I later learned that only one out of 1500 people that sign up for a first White Belt class actually makes it to Black Belt.
The lessons I learned in that dojo have benefitted me in many ways. The ability to focus on a goal and employ a disciplined approach can be traced back to the study of Martial Arts. The ability to overcome adversity is one skill that has also come in handy. Everyone experiences setbacks in life, and it is vital to have the ability to stand up and start from the beginning, if necessary, to achieve success. I learned I had the ability to overcome adversity after tearing my ACL/MCL while sparring at the 3rd degree Brown Belt level. This injury required several months of rehabilitation and exercise followed by major reconstructive knee surgery and again 3 months of physical therapy and rehab to learn how to walk again. I had several great coaches during my recovery. With their help, I earned my Black Belt on June 12, 2012.
